Abstract
Background: The incidence of obesity and the risk of metabolic disorders and many other additional health problems have dramatically increased among middle aged obese women. Effective obesity management programs are crucial for promoting health in middle aged obese women. Therefore this study was undertaken with the objective of developing an effective program applicable to middle aged obese women.

Methods: The study subjects were middle aged obese women (n = 36) whose body mass index (BMI) was greater than 25 kg/m2. Thirty six participants were randomly divided into two groups. They were assigned to either the Nutrition and Exercise (NE) program or the Exercise (E) program. Both programs were conducted for 3 months. We measured each subject¡¯s body weight, body mass index, body fat, serum lipid profile, adiponectin, and high sensitivity C-reactive protein level.

Results: Body weight and BMI significantly decreased in NE group than in E group. The serum levels of total cholesterol decreased while adiponectin was increased in NE group in contrast to E group.

Conclusion: These results show that continuous NE program will promote health in middle aged obese women compared to only E program.
